"Self Contained" HID Conversion Kits for Lightforce Hand Held 170 and 240 Spotlights
What is "Self Contained" ?
This is where the ballast is small enough to be attached on the outside of the Lightforce Spotlight (on the back of the handle
- see 2010 photo below) but with all the wiring inside the light housing. This allows the spotlight to be used without having a large,
loose ballast external to the light, as per the photos below from 2008.

BACKGROUND
Dave has been converting various spotlights to HID for many years, both Vehicle and Hand Held spotlights.
If you frequent 4WD forums or Whirlpool, you may have seen his posts under "Bushy555".
A few years ago, we started converting Lightforce Spotlights with external ballast's (see photo from 2008 below)
which used a Heat Sink designed by Dave. This was mainly for my own use.

We have been shooting / spotlighting with Lightforce Halogen Spotlights for over 25 years,
mainly using the Lightforce 170 Hand Held and the Lightforce 240 Remote spotlights.
I had numerous enquiries from fellow hunters / spotlighters and now that a viable conversion solution is available,
we have now started converting Lightforce Hand Held Spotlights with "Self Contained" ballast's (see photo from 2010 below)
which we think is a much better solution.
mainly using the Lightforce 170 Hand Held and the Lightforce 240 Remote spotlights.

we have now started converting Lightforce Hand Held Spotlights with "Self Contained" ballast's (see photo from 2010 below)
which we think is a much better solution.
In the near future, we hope to be able to convert the Lightforce Remote Spotlights to HID using a similar system.

"The brightness, intensity and whiteness is unbelievable compared to the normal Halogen type Lightforce 240. We got 23 Pigs over the weekend and could pick out pigs in the paddocks a lot easier. This was at distances of at least 800 metres to 1 km away, even in long grass. We used the HID light both from the vehicle and from the Quad bikes and it worked perfectly. Very happy indeed."

I used my new 240 HID on a recent trip in the wheat belt country of central NSW. We have used the 170 halogen for the past
18 years with no problems and thought it was the best, that is until we tried our new 240 HID, what a difference very bright white light makes, far easier to spot and clearly identify vermin and target those species. Fox's and cat's that where once an eye shine could be clearly seen bodily and pigs etc stood out perfectly in the wheat crops out to 800 hundred or so metres.
Very happy shooter indeed
